I won!!

Around 8 pm yesterday, was preparing dinner listening to dhoomfm. For those who dont know, dhoomfm is a local desi 24/7 radio station.

So anyway, the anchor was promoting a movie and asked the listeners a question "where was the title song of Singh is Kingh shot?" I knew the answer and quickly picked up the phone to call, 20 seconds later she announced on the radio that I had won a cd of the movie. YAYYYY!!!

I thought that was pretty quick...The anchor din't even wait for the program to end to announce the name, probably I was the only caller!!!

UPDATE: 5th Aug - I was told that someone from dhoomfm would contact me in 2 days....Its been more than 3 weeks but no news...so i guess it was all fake...sigh!!

Its raining movies..

Hey friends, Sorry for being away so long. Was experiencing problems logging into my account, I thought it was because of the third party template that I was using, so one fine day after few trials, I was able to login and changed the template immediately. Next day, the same problem persisted. So after a long time I tried today and viola, succeeded..

Anyways, from last couple of weeks, it has been raining movies at my place. Why ypu may ask? Here's why...

During childhood, my parents would keep me away from watching any telugu movies. Apparently they felt the movies had "vulgar" dialogues and songs were quite "provocative". Well, I can't agree with them more because in 90's most of the movies were like THAT. In this bargain, I lost out on watching some golden classics.

For a long time now, K had been pestering me to watch couple of telugu movies and finally last week I agreed. We started with "Shankarabharanam", it was such a lovely story, the songs, just divine. I wanted more, so next was "SwarnaKamalam" and "Sruthilayalu". All I said after watching there movies was "Wow"...I have fallen in love with K.Vishwanath movies. Can't wait to watch more...Am glad I heeded to K's
requests.

Well, since last weekend was telugu movies extravaganza, it was turn for hindi movies this week. To kick start the weekend, had an early dinner and cuddled up to watch Rekha/Rajesh Roshan starrer "Khoobsurat". Next was Amol Palekar's Golmaal. Ended the weekend with Dharmendra/Sharmila Tagore's Chupke chupke. Though I have watched all these Hrishikesh Mukherjee's movies umpteen number of times, i just cant get enough of them. Can never get bored of these movies.

With heat sweltering at upper 90s, what better way to beat the heat..This is my idea of a relaxing weekend.

Adverse conditions...

All through the weekend, the weather was hot & humid but the last two days have been worse. The temp right now is showing 99F and rest of the week looks no better.

And here I am, watching news on TV about the floods in Wisconsin and Chicago area. Why such adverse conditions?? Global warming??

Whatever it might be, hope things get better everywhere..

Memorial Day Long Weekend.

Did not make any major plans. Stayed at home and watched movies. K was very very busy, he worked from 9 am to 11 pm all the three days..In fact he was working till 3 in the morning today. Am really worried about his health..This has been going on for the last 4 months...

To make matters worse, I had a terrible terrible back pain apart from the fever that I was suffering from. Was unable to move, sleep or work. After 3 days, the pain subsided a little though I still have occasional stings on my left side. I came to a conclusion that my health is badly affected cos of my sedentary lifestyle.

When I came to US two years back, I had a healthy weight of 110 lbs, proportionate to my height. Now I weigh 120 lbs, though not overweight, still all my old dresses/jeans/tops are not fitting well. Not the weight but the unhealthy symptoms are worrying me.

So, I decided to get an exercise equipment. So there you go, my weekend was spent researching about treadmills and finally ended up buying one. Assembled it last night and it looks good...

Now it remains to be seen how much we make use of it. Wish me luck..

Something to learn!!

There are some interesting blogs which I am gonna read regularly from now on...

One of them being Amitabh Bachchan's Bigadda. I won't comment about the contents of his blog . There is no doubt about his writing skills, its just flawless but what surprises me most is, how religiously he updates his blog daily, not once but sometimes twice or thrice a day. And the posts are often very long.
From where does he get so much time, especially after reading his erratic schedule? Makes me suspicious, if its he who is updating the blog. If he is, then its defnitely commendable.
Well, leaving aside all this ,one thing to learn from this legendary man is Time management, something which I lack terribly.
So here is my resolution:
Not only would I update my blog daily from now on but would also try to finish my TO DO list which I have been putting aside for a long long time now..

Lets see how far I succeed...

I should have...

After creating a new account with blogger last week, I was blog hopping...Dont remember how many blogspots i have visited in the last few days. Few of the bloggers really inspired me, they have been writing for so many years now...

Anyways, after reading few of the blogs, wondered why i discontinued my blog. Few posts on my old blog really made me nostalgic. Reminded me of little things which I dont even remember anymore, date of my first letter of acceptance into Grad school, date we bought our new furniture, date I got my driving license, infact it even has info about what we did on memorial day 2006.

I should have continued my diary.

Hype over nothing!!

It was not best of the weekends for us this time. Me, being sick and K busy with his work left us with no time to do anything creative. Just watched couple of movies, Road to Perdition, The conspiracy theory and Se7en.

Last Weekend(11th May): I was in two minds whether to go to Holland, MI or Albany,NY for the Tulip festival. Since Michigan is too far , we decided to go to the Albany Tulip Festival (ATF) which is a 3 hrs drive from our place. Started at 8:30 in the morning and went straight to Hindu temple of Albany, saw the tmpl, had lunch and headed to the festival. Temple?? Yes indeed!! Well, I have developed a habit of planning a visit to the local temple wherever we are visiting. Call me religious but I like to see how the tmpl is designed/maintained. Cant remember a single place where I have missed such an opportunity.

Back to the trip, after a little bit of looking around, we found a parking spot very close to the park. Walked all over the park, posed for some nice pics...The tulips were in full bloom and were very pretty / colorful..We were done seeing everything within 2 hrs and had loads of time in hand, so decided to venture into the city to do some sightseeing. The capitol building was architecturally designed and looked like some European style mansion.

On the way back, there was lots of traffic so K stopped at an open mall to take rest, read "rest = shopping" for me . Got lucky and found a pair of sketcher mules on store closing-clearance for $15. Been looking around for those from a long time. Simply Love 'em.
Were very tired by the time we reached home. Had dinner and went straight to bed.

Gist: Somehow I had too many expectations, was comparing it to Seattle's Tulip festival(STF), not that I have visited, but from the pictures, seattle's TF looks very very pretty with long colourful fields (reminds me of Amitabh-Rekha's Silsila movie)...I had read so much about ATF, how good it is and stuff like that. Was quite disappointed and felt that it was a hype about nothing. Good thing is one more city added to my list of "visited" places.

Overall an okay turned good trip solely cos of the mules..

Sick!!

Have been suffering from fever and severe cold from last 5 days...My tonsils are killing me..Good thing is, am feeling little better today..

Its only when one falls sick, do they realise the importance of good health...

Yet-AGAIN!!

My first introduction to a blog was in 2005, that's when I first landed in US of A. Inspired by all the food blogs, I too started mine, it was a private blog, not about food though. I wrote couple of times a month and after 6 months, discontinued it.

Now, here I am again with a new one..I am hoping to write regularly, if not everyday.

Have been thinking what to write for my first post. Since Mother's day was just around the corner, it would be a perfect start to dedicate the first post to my mom..This is an excerpt from my previous blog...these are the few paragraphs and not the complete post..

But there are times when I really get bored of cooking and feel like eating someone else’s handmade food. This is the time I miss mum the most. I feel sorry for her and utter disgust at myself for not having helped her when I had the chance and the opportunity to do so. Never in my life did I step into the kitchen to cook something for mum,dad or anna.

There were girls of my age and also much younger to me who used to cook for their entire family but I never ever tried to do so. No amount of yelling and taunts of my so called relatives helped me venture into the pantry area. When mum was bedridden with her back pain,I resigned my job thinking that I would take care of mum and learn a bit of cooking as well but I couldn't be of any use in the house.I was unable to dish out the simplest of the dishes..Not even tea..Though she was advised to take complete bed-rest , was unable to do so cos there was no one in the house to help..Sometimes when mum's back pain became unbearable, dad used to cook and somehow we managed those days...felt so helpless then.

I have started cooking for the past few months but once in every week,I get bored and feel like taking rest and eating K's handmade food. But never did I ever realise that even mum would feel the same...With absolutely no help from anyone in the family, she has been cooking single handedly for more than 25 years now...I feel ashamed of myself for not being of any help to her….Sorry mummy for everything that I never did when I had a chance to…Don't know if I would ever be able to make up to you for all those years but am definitely yearning to do so if given a chance...Sorry mama for never having understood you... "
Thousands of miles apart, I now understand the importance of parents...Tend to have taken them for granted all these years...Was it the teenage harmones or rebelliousness??
